Vaping for Beginners

We've heard a lot of discouraging stories over the years from tobacco cigarette smokers who have decided to switch to vaping for health reasons. This is wonderful, of course, except these smokers have been so overwhelmed by the seeming complexity of vaping and e-cigs that they've throw up their hands in frustration, and gone right back to the familiarity of tobacco.

It truly is a shame, because we've also heard lots of stories over the years—dozens and dozens of them, in fact—from former tobacco smokers who were able to kick their habits for good with the help of vaping. And that, friends, is why we've decided to put together this brief yet comprehensive guide to vaping for beginners.

What Do You Need to Start Vaping?

A Starter Kit

If you're just starting out in the world of vaping, you can take some comfort in the fact that literally dozens of manufacturers have created starter kits for smokers just like you. You'll find that these kits are available in nearly every vape shop you enter; you can also purchase them from any number of online e-cig stores.

Of course, even starter kits run the gamut from super-simple to fairly complicated. Just make sure that the kit you purchase comes with, at minimum, one battery, one charger, and at least a few cartridges. We recommend staying away from kits with a ton of accessories until you have a better feel for what you like and what you don't.

E-Liquid

There are essentially two different types of e-liquid cartridges: You've got your disposable, prefilled cartridges, and you've got your longer-lasting refillable cartridges. Our advice? If you're still relatively new to vaping, go with a disposable cartridge. That way, you can try a handful of different cartridges and a number of different flavors without having to spend serious money on a long-lasting cartridge you may not end up liking.

Once you've tried a few of the prefilled cartridges, you'll have a much better feel for the size and type of device you like and don't like. At that point, you’ll probably want to go with a more expensive cartridge you fill yourself.

Bear in mind that making the switch to e-cigarettes isn't easy for everyone. If you're an especially heavy smoker of tobacco cigarettes, you may find the process a bit stressful. Just remember that many thousands of smokers have made the switch to vaping before you.

Having fun with the wide variety of flavors, devices, and nicotine levels is all part of the vaping experience. On the website of The Local Vapor, a Doylestown, PA and Ambler, PA-based vape shop, we have an ever-growing selection of both hardware and e-liquids. We also offer various services, including in-store vaping tutorials.

We'd love to have you visit one of our two brick-and-mortar stores in person, but if you can't make it, you're always welcome to order anything we sell via our website.
